Good yields on later crops

GLYNN JONES has had good yields on his spring barley, wheat and oat crops. “Im very pleased with the yields. We used satellite mapping in some of the fields last year and I think that has helped improved yield, as well as management and agronomy.” The farm is At Owestry on the Welsh/Shropshire border

Biscuit wheat Claire has yielded 11.4t/ha (4.6t/acre) and Genghis for feed 11.1t/ha (4.5t/acre). “We normally yield around the 4t/acre (10t/ha) mark.” It was combined at about 16% moisture.

Lexicon naked oats have yielded well at 5.2t/ha (2.1t/acre), combined at 15% moisture. “Wed do well to do any better than this.”

Chime winter barley has yielded between 5.6-6.2 (2.25-2.5t/acre), which is about average. “There was a lot of straw and the market for this is good at the moment.”

There are 12ha (30 acres) of spring oats left, which have just been started and will be finished tomorrow. “The weather has been kind since the weekend.”
