Gotts HFs attract four-figure bidding

HEAVY milking cow families tempted a stream of four-figure bids for Hostein Friesians from Norman Gotts Castledon herd when it was dispersed last week.

The herd, moved from its home in Essex to the Sale Centre at Penrith Cumbria, attracted three top prices of 2000gns. The first came for the third-calver Castledon Jed Donfloss (VG-88) with a 12,000kg second lactation behind her. This great granddaughter of Castledon Emperor Donfloss 4th – still milking after yielding 196t – was bought by J R Williamson and Co, Nantwich, Cheshire for their Fountainhead herd.

And it was another from the same family that shared the top price when the second calver Castledon Inspiration Donfloss was claimed by Mr and Mrs T E B Nichols, Bakewell, Derbys, who secured nine head for their Haddonhall herd.

The third 2000gns call came from a Scottish bidder to take an Inspiration daughter.

West Yorks dairy farmers Messrs J F Scott bought the prize-winning third calver Castledon BC Donfloss, a Boulet Charles daughter with an 11,000kg heifer yield followed by a second note of 13,500kg.

Averages: 53 cows and heifers £1177; 28 recently served and maiden heifers £695. &#42
