Grass profits video

MAINTAINING dairy profits by reducing feed costs and making more of grazed grass are the focus of a video released at the show.

Extending the Grazing Season, is produced by the British Grassland Society under a new MAFF Agricultural Network in England and Wales initiative. The emphasis is on practice rather than theory, said Wilts dairy producer Jerry Rider, who features in the video.

Producers who are extending grazing works under challenging soils and rainfall conditions are featured. New Zealand consultant Paul Bird explains the principles of measuring grass available, how a wedge of grass provides a continuous supply of grazing, and what to do if too much or too little grass is available.

The video is sponsored by the BGS, Duchy College, the Institute of Grassland and Environmental Research and Midland Bank, and is available at £6.50, inc p&p. Details from the BGS at No 1 Earley Gate, University of Reading, Reading, Berks RG6 6AT. &#42
