Green measures probe

A SURVEY of farmers in the West Midlands has been launched by the NFU to find out how environmentally-friendly agriculture in the region is.

Claire Robinson, NFU West Midlands policy adviser, said: "All the while we hear stories about poor farming practices, and how farmers are blamed for ruining the countryside, but this is just not true.

"The majority of farmers are going out of their way to help conserve and protect the flora and fauna found on their farms."

Conservation measures

As well as specific environmental questions, the survey also asks farmers to detail conservation measures they have taken, such as wildlife strips and beetle banks, and includes questions about public rights of way. &#42
