GRAIN marketing co-op Group Cereals has secured a deal to supply 700 tonnes of organic oats for a new crunchy breakfast cereal.
Suppliers to the 20-member Organic Marketing Group, part of GCS, are expected to receive a premium of about 5 over their usual contracts.
“This is exactly what we need – a deal designed to support British farming,” said OMG managing director Geoff Burke.
“Farmers must get involved and work together to secure similar contracts.”
Mr Burke believes there is a good future ahead for organic growers in Britain and is hopeful that consumer demand will lead to more such contracts in the future.
