Guide to protect ancient trees

A NEW GUIDE has been launched to help farmers protect and get the most from ancient farmland trees.

Following advice on how to manage these hedgerow or in-field trees could boost the opportunities for farmers to access new Environmental Stewardship grants, said the Woodland Trust.

The leaflet, called Ancient Tree Guides No.1: Trees and Farming has been jointly produced by the Woodland Trust and the Ancient Tree Forum (ATF) and is available free.

“With the help of this leaflet farmers can discover what effect farming has on these trees and how it is possible to think about modifying farming activities to look after them above and below ground,” said the ATF‘s Ted Green.

Copies of the leaflet can be downloaded from the Woodland Trust website.
