Harrogate is to host new show

A NEW multi-breed show and sale of sheep is to be held at Harrogate this year.

Due to take place on Sept 3 at the Great Yorkshire Showground, the event was organised in response to the need for an annual multi-breed sale serving the north of England.

Although it will be unlikely to compete in terms of numbers with well-established sales such as Builth Wells and Kelso, 500 head could be forward in the first year, says John Hanson of auctioneers, Craven Cattle Marts. And it is likely to be an annual event.

Prices at this autumns sales should be similar or higher than last year, when the best tups were making between 400gns and 500gns, suggests Mr Hanson. People are increasingly realising that investment in good-quality breeding stock is worthwhile.
