Health food stores ban GM products

GENETIX Food Alert, an alliance of more than 100 health food shops and wholesalers, is to clear its members stores of genetically modified (GM) products – including sauce mixes and vegetarian burger mixes.

They have also promised to ban foods containing oils and emulsifiers derived from GM foods, which are common in food such as chocolate.

The group said Britain should turn to Brazil and Canada for soya supplies because the US crop was becoming GM-dominated.
