Heathland grants…

ENGLISH Nature has extended the closing date for entry to its wildlife enhancement scheme, which aims to return extensive grazing to healthland sites in Dorset.

More than £250,000 in grants is on offer under the scheme for owners of Dorset heathland notified as a site of special scientific interest.

The grants will pay for initial scrub and tree removal, and the full cost of enclosing heathland for cattle and pony grazing. Those taking part receive £15/ha/year for maintaining heath in its current condition and an extra £55/ha/year if cattle or pony grazing is re-introduced.
