Heifer reaches 1400gns in Jersey sale

A MAIDEN heifer reached 1400gns to top the market at Richard Waters Touchwood Jersey herd dispersal sale last week.

The heifer, Touchwood Bragging Baby Oh Baby by Clasic Brilliant Brag VG and out of a Butterboy Felix Design VG dam that had yielded 9767kg in 305 days, was bought by Derick Frigot of Jisex International for a client in England.

She will remain on the island until foot-and-mouth restrictions have been lifted on the mainland.

Despite the recent introduction of milk licenses (for milk quotas) on Jersey there was plenty of demand for cows, with 10 milkers making more than 1000gns each.

A new herd set up under the name of the Natalie Syndicate, designed to preserve one of Jerseys most famous bloodlines, purchased eight Natalie bred cows ranging from 600 to 1250gns.

Averages: 61 cows and heifers in milk and/or in calf 766.93; nine served heifers 485.33; nine maiden heifers 522.66 (Bruton Knowles).
