Heifers see good trade

SPRING and early summer calving heifers ready to move into top gear off grass met a good trade at a collective sale from the Cheshire-based Dalebank, Larch and Fennshall Holstein Friesian herds.

Carnforth, Lancashire breeders &#42 &#42 Bell and Sons paid the top price of 3200gns to add Dalebank Roxy to their Holmland herd. This 1994-bred Prelude daughter was one of a small selection of young cows on offer.

Top for Fennshall was 2000gns given by J R Williamson and Co, Nantwich, for a calved heifer by Rotate Jed bred from the herds Squirrel family.

Vendors: David and Judy Rees (Dalebank and Larch) and Neil and Judy Jones (Fennshall).

Averages Dalebank – 12 cows £1278, 23 calved heifers £938, two served heifers £892, two maiden heifers £1260. Larch – one cow and two calved heifers £917. Fennshall – 19 calved heifers £1247, six served heifers £995. (Wright-Manley with Norton and Brooksbank.) &#42
