Hogg ducks out

FARM Minister Douglas Hogg angered beef producers by failing to meet breed society representatives on the cattle lines during his visit on Monday.

Mr Hogg also declined an invitation by the Royal Smithfield Show Society to view the judging of the first cattle classes in the main ring.

Earlier, Mr Hogg had pulled out of a political debate, where he was due to share a platform at the show with Labours farm spokesman Gavin Strang and Liberal Democrat rural affairs spokesman Paul Tyler.
