Holstein buyers left wanting as entry falls short

A SMALL entry at the latest fixture for the Border and Lakeland Holstein Club left many buyers wanting. All 27 head were sold leaving auctioneers Harrison & Hetherington calling for an increased entry at the next sale.

There were two top bids of 1280gns. First call came for a fresh second calver from Messrs Broughs Criffelhill herd at Cockermouth, Cumbria. Criffelhill Trudy 40th is bred from one of the herds most successful cow families and is by Criffelhill Manager and out of a cow by Picston Asterix. She gave just over 7100kg as a heifer.

Dumfriesshire vendor Ian Duncan shared top spot after standing supreme with his calved heifer Broadlea Factor Cloe 2nd. Local breeders Robert Carter and Son sold Gerrard Dombinator Snowy 20th at 1150gns and took the cow championship with a second calver by their stock bull Bricknell Realism.

Averages: Four cows in-milk/in-calf £1071 and 12 heifers in-milk/in-calf £906 (Harrison & Hetherington). &#42
