Holstein Friesian sale is a cracker at £1650

A LIVELY trade produced an average of £960 for heifers and £865 for cows at the annual Christmas Cracker sale of Holstein and Holstein Friesian cattle at Hallworthy, Cornwall.

Top call at this event, of which farmers weekly was one of the main sponsors, came for the reserve champion, Summercourt Aster Starbuck Iris 2nd from Eric Comely, Newquay. She was one of a selection of heifers retained following the dispersal of his Summercourt herd last year.

She was sold with a Startmore Rudolph bull calf at foot and made £1650 to Adrian Harvey, Treluddlow, Newquay. Mr Harvey received a "cash-back" prize of £500 as purchaser of the top-priced animal in the sale.

Geoff Dawe, manager of the Noremead herd at Swindon, gave the championship to J R W and L E Paynters British Holstein second calver Paydon Charles Moonlight, a Boulet Charles daughter from their herd at Petherwin, Launceston. Buyer at £1020 was I Gibbons, Bristol.

Guy Leys Hoops herd from Holsworthy enjoyed a good day and saw a Cleitus son from the herds Butterscotch family realise £1350 to Keith Knight, Bodmin. Brother William Leys Thuborough Spangle 32nd made £1150 to Nick Flower, Bath.

Guy Leys Hoops herd also won the overall title and a cheque of £600 for most points gained for individual championships and class placings over the year at the monthly dairy sales at this venue. (Kittows)n
