In-calf heifer star of sale at Charolais club
AN IN-CALF heifer Coolnaslee Prudence topped the trade at 2200gns when 31 Charolais females were offered at the Northern Ireland Charolais Clubs show and sale at Portadown.
Consigned by Maghera breeder, Gilbert Crawford Prudence is by Derrygiff Mills and was in-calf to the 10,000gns Roundshill Ohoh.
Her good looks won her the reserve championship ticket, but she combined conformation with outstanding performance figures. She has a beef value of 30 which puts her in the top 10% of the breed.
Buyer was John McMordie, Ballygowan, while vendor Mr Crawford made it a double when herdmate Coolnaslee Poise, also by the Derrygill sire and in-calf to Ohoh, realised 2000gns to C McGlinchey, Omagh, after taking the female championship.
Roeside Ruby, a well fancied heifer from Robert Scott, Limavady, sold at 1800gns. She has a beef value of 16 and was by Dovea Gin Tonic and out of a Criffel Golddust sired dam. She goes to Newry bidder George McCague.
Edwin Morrison travelled from Maguiresbridge with two good heifers from his Drumeer herd which sold to 1750gns for an Oldstone Egbert daughter taken by R Morrow who runs the Ramrad herd at Coleraine.
The first progeny of the 9000gns Glenleary Neptune, by the French sire Ecrin, was offered when Kevin McOscar (Cookstown) sold Oscar Roselee. This January 2001-bred heifer made 1500gns to Mr McCague (Automart). *
