India expects poor edible oil crop
A POOR monsoon has left India facing falls in edible oil production because of a poor groundnut and soyabean harvest.
There has already been a rise of 10% in the price of nuts and oil in the past fortnight in anticipation of a 35% fall in the groundnut crop.
Indias winter groundnut crop is expected to be about 3.5m tonnes against 5.26m tonnes taken in 1998/1999.
World export supplies are expected to depend on crop progress in the main exporting countries such as US, China and Argentina.
