Inquiry teams need help

PLEDGES of money and evidence of official malpractice are needed urgently by three legal teams battling to force the government to hold a public inquiry into foot-and-mouth.

West Country firm Clarke Willmott and Clarke has joined forces with Welsh firm Gabb and Co and Bristol-based Burges Salmon. Gabb and Co partner Glyn Maddocks said: "We need to persuade people who want to see a public inquiry to pledge money for our legal action."

The three teams have secured a judicial review of the governments decision to be held at Londons High Court in Feb. After hearing evidence from the law firms and DEFRA officials, a High Court judge will then decide whether to order ministers to hold a public inquiry.

Mr Maddocks said: "Losing this case would be a massive public humiliation for the government and it is sure to throw the full might of its machinery into insuring it wins. We need pledges of as much money as possible together with evidence of official malpractice to strengthen our case."

To pledge money for the campaign or supply evidence, please contact Tim Russ at Clarke Willmott Clarke, Blackbrook Gate, Park Avenue, Taunton TA1 2PG (01823-445218, fax 01823-445816). &#42
