Investigation into culled bulls value
DEFRA secretary Margaret Beckett has ordered an investigation into the £244,000 compensation valuation for a bull culled during the foot-and-mouth crisis.
The valuation is the largest for an animal culled during the crisis and was for the five-year-old Friesian Marshside Rocket III. It fathered thousands of offspring, which went on to give consistently high milk yields.
Owner William Bell from Carlisle, said it could have brought in £2.5m in stud fees over the next 10 years. *
