Irish ‘bachelor farmer’ calendar highlights flight from land

By FWi staff

TWELVE Irish bachelor farmers who are each looking for a wife have posed for a calendar because there is a shortage of women in rural areas of Ireland.

The calendar, called Bachelor Farmers of Ireland, aims to highlight the fact that men in rural Ireland often remain single because more women are moving to urban areas.

Each month on the calendar, which is being sold throughout Ireland and the United States, features a new bachelor, with his first name and birthday.

The calendars makers, Irish-Americans Patricia Cahill Jones and Jennifer Lucas, said they wanted to bring attention to the plight faced by many Irish farmers who cannot find a wife.
