Irish minister attacks CAP plans

By Amanda Cheesely in Brussels

THE EU Commissions CAP reform plans do not offer farmers enough compensation, Irish farm minister Joe Walsh said in Luxembourg yesterday.

He was speaking at an informal meeting of EU farm ministers ahead of todays in-depth discussions. Agreement on CAP reform is not expected to come out of todays meeting.

The reform plans aim to slash beef price support by 30%, cereal support by 20% and dairy support by 10%, all after 2000.
