Irish promote better farming understanding

IRISH farm union leaders have launched an Agricultural Aware-ness Trust, funded by all sectors of the industry, to promote a better understanding of farming among the general public.

Speaking at the launch, Irish Farmers Association president John Donnelly said the time had come for the industry to do more to reinforce the general publics positive perception of the food and farming industry.

The trust would be dedicated to promoting better understanding of Irish farming, the rural environment, animal welfare and food quality and safety, he said.

"The trusts work will also provide a vehicle to clarify the many misrepresentations of the industry," added Mr Donnelly.

Trust chairman Michael McBennett, a farmer and businessman, said he expected the trusts initial work to include the imaginative presentation of basic facts and figures on the industry. &#42
