Ironstone Lims go to 1700gns top

A PRODUCTION sale of youngstock from the Ironstone Limousin herd topped at 1700gns at Carlisle as several leading breeders sifted through the entry in search of "makers".

Consigned by Smiths of Bloxham, Banbury, Oxon, the entry comprised some good sorts by Uplands Dai and the Atout sired Grange Hesperus.

And it was a March-born bull stirk Ironstone Morris, by the Uplands sire, that drew the top call of 1700gns from Cruikshank Normande Limousin, Cleghorn, Lanark. Morris is out of a Mereside Crackerjack dam.

A bid of 1600gns from T R C Logan, Kilbirnie, Ayrshire, bought Ironstone Morgan, another spring-born calf by Dai.

Averages: 18 spring 1996 bred bulls £950; 19 maiden/yearling heifers £722; and nine non-pedigree heifers £681. (Harrison and Hetherington)
