Islanders might no longer get the blues

SHETLAND crofters may no longer have to dye the heads of dead sheep blue, following pressure for a relaxation in Government regulations.

Islanders may kills livestock on their crofts but, because of the risk of BSE, they have to dye the heads and spinal cords before incineration.

Crofters in alliance with the Shetland Islands Council have put forward proposals that they be allowed to bury all the remains of home-kills on their land.
