Jag heifer tops Rill B&W sale

THE home sale of late-autumn calving heifers from the Rill herd of Holstein Friesians drew 15 bids in excess of 1000gns.

Almost all the heifers on offer for Mr and Mrs R J Burrow at Ottery St Mary, Devon were by Bidlea Jag or Grangehill Minstrel. Jag is by Hanoverhill Jethro out of a 12,000kg dam and Minstrel is by Starbuck.

From the rostrum auctioneers Terry Hamlin and Richard Turner enjoyed a fast trade with thehighest bid of 1180gns comingfor a Jag heifer from the Hilda family.


This December-calver, giving 26.6kg, went to W Luscombe, Ivybridge, South Devon. The same buyer also took three other heifers by Jag – two at 1100gns and one at 1050gns.

South Molton buyer D Verney paid 1150gns for another calved heifer by Jag and 1080gns for one by Minstrel.

Volume bidder was V Eames, Chard, Somerset who claimed 14 and gave a top of 1050gns for a Jag heifer.

AVERAGES: 35 calved heifers £1004 and eight in-calf heifers £863. (Stags)
