Jake to pound pavements for Africa

IT is no joke – farmers weekly cartoonist Jake Tebbit is hoping to raise more than a laugh from farmers again when he takes part in the London Marathon on Sun, Apr 19.

Last year he personally raised £2500 towards the FARM-Africa teams total of over £24,700. FARM-Africa is a charity that works with local people and organisations in Africa, helping them to identify and overcome agricultural problems and produce more food.

It provides training and technical advice and makes a lasting difference through sustainable self-help projects.

The FARM team are anxious to raise even more money this year and Jake did not need asking twice to join their efforts. "So anxious was I to join up that I was the first person to turn up at the pre-Marathon training day and won myself a prestigious bottle of wine, made by Antonio Pinto who has won the London Marathon twice and holds the record for the fastest time," says Jake.

farmers weekly has already signed his sponsorship form and we are confident he will run a good race. He hopes readers will do this, too, and so support the work that can make so much difference to the lives of rural Africans.

Just £15 can buy hand tools for a family; £30 provides a milking goat; £80 will pay for 200kg of high-yielding seed in Tanzania. All sponsorship amounts, large or small, will be gratefully received.

Cheques should be made payable to FARM-Africa and sent to Jake c/o Rosie Rendall, Farm-Africa, 9-10 Southampton Place, London WC1A 2EA.
