Japan opens door to US tomatoes

JAPANS Ministry of Agriculture has relaxed its irksome quarantine restrictions covering the import of tomatoes from Canada and America.

Imports had been limited to 25 varieties of US tomato and seven types of Canadian tomato which Japan declared were free of a mould known as tobacco blue mould.

The ministry has now agreed that the mould has not contaminated other varieties of tomato.
