Joint top spot for Staveley & Fleethill Lims

BULLS from the Staveley and Fleethill Limousin herds shared the joint top price of 5800gns last Saturday when a joint production sale was held at Penybont, Wales.

First came Staveley Iceland, from William and Sally Bedells herd based at Neuadd Isaf, Penybont, Powys. An October 1993-born Djerk son out of Lumbylaw Ansy, he is destined to join his half brother, Staveley Hurricane, in the Genus Limousin AI bull stud in due course.

Iceland scored 90 out of 100 for muscling in the BLCS conformation scoring scheme, believed to be a breed record.

And soon after, the auctioneer David Thomlinson went to the same price to take Fleethill Jacob, a May 1994-born bull from the Crossgates, Llandrindod Wells-based herd of Michael Gray. By Brereton Grandee out of home-bred Fleethill Gem, he is destined for Mr and Mrs Thomlinsons Beeches herd at Scaleby, Cumbria.

Scottish Limousin breeder Jimmy Lindsay, meanwhile, paid 3400gns to take Fleethill Jotan, a classy yearling Grandee son, back to Bushelhead, Carluke.

Djerk-sired Staveley Limousin females with calves by Honneur and back in calf to the French bred bull, also met a strong trade, with three outfits topping 3000gns.

The Fleethill female consignment was led by Fleethill Glamour, a November 1993-born Uplands Diego daughter with a Holcombe Humility-sired bull calf at foot. At 3700gns, she went to G A Davies, Llandysul, Dyfed.

The sale also featured a small guest consignment from David Matthews, Bridgend, Glamorgan, which was led by the Djerk son, Greenfield Ixie. Buyer, at 2700gns, was B Davies, Brecon, Powys.

All three are also successful commercial primestock show calf breeders and the offering of 20 calves with show potential was led by William and Sally Bedells pure- bred Limousin heifer stirk, Stave-ley Jemima. Buyers, at 2100gns, were the Hamer Brothers, New Cross, Aberystwyth.
