Keep on serving

CONTINUING to serve cows that have not conceived after four services is more economic than culling cows when market prices are poor.

According to Cumbria vet Graham Brooks, reporting in Vet Record, cows that take more than four services to get in-calf are worth persevering with.

"It is a popular misconception that repeat breeders will continue to be so in subsequent lactations. There is nothing physically wrong with them when examined and there is no evidence that next lactation they will be repeat breeders again."

In addition these cows have the same chance of conceiving next service as they did at the previous service, he says. &#42
