Keeping down bugs…

Does anyone still run a 45-year-old tractor on its original set of tyres? John Sweet, based at Polgooth, St Austell, claims to have run his Ferguson FE35 tractor on the same set of Firestone Champion Ground Grip tyres since 1957. Shod with 11×28 on the rear and 6×16 tyres at the front, the tractor has been employed in general farm duties including ploughing and cultivations work. The tyres were manufactured at Firestones 10ha (22 acre) Brentwood plant which closed about 25 years ago.

Keeping down bugs…

AN effective way of keeping fungi, spores and bacteria at bay, is how Farm Assist Aston describes its two new chemical applicators.

The knapsack Auto Sprayer is designed for small spraying jobs, while the larger Igeba fogging machine can be used for treating whole glasshouses.

Powered by a 12V rechargeable battery, the Auto Sprayer has a high pressure pump plunger operating at 10-20bar with a ceramic piston and cylinder.

Nozzles are designed to provide a fine, even droplet size, while 35cm and 55cm long lances are available with a 1m reinforced hose.

The companys Igeba fogging machine is for applying insecticides, acaricides and fungicides which are soluble in oil or water.

Lightweight in design, the unit features a covered intake valve which serves as a silencer and protects against dust and solution particles.

The Igeba has a maximum flow rate of 42 litres/hour for oil based and 10lt/hour for water based products and can apply chemical to a distance of up to 40m indoors. &#42
