Kent wheat disappoints

YIELDS of first cut wheats off heavy Weald clay at Boughton Place Farm, Lenham, near Maidstone, Kent can only be described as “awful”, says Jamie Clark.

“Weve done 80 acres of Malacca and Claire and they are about 0.75t/acre down on last year. Its not that they were sown late, they just lay waterlogged for much of the winter.

“If anything Claire was slightly better, but its very disappointing.”
