Kit to sample calf immunity levels

TAKE the guesswork out of deciding whether calves have had sufficient colostrum using a calf colostral immunity kit, says manufacturer Linnodee Animal Care.

Using a sample of nasal mucus, a calfs colostral immunity status can be determined using a dipstick which changes colour, says the company.

The intensity of the colour gives a practical indication of how much colostrum has been fed. When immunity is found to be minimal, additional colostrum can be given during the absorptive phase to maximise immunity, according to Linnodee.

Each kit contains five tests and costs £20 (028-93322114, fax 028-93349329).
