Labour goes rural
THE Labour Party has announced that it will hold a summer conference on rural affairs in a bid to throw off its reputation as an urban Party.
DEFRA secretary, Margaret Beckett, announced on Tuesday (May 21) that the event would take place at Harper Adams University College in Shropshire from July 19-21. The agenda has yet to be drawn up, so whether Prime Minister, Tony Blair, will attend has not yet been confirmed. But the event will involve ministers, senior party officials and rural organisations. *
