Landowners still to fight roamers

LANDOWNERS are determined to continue their opposition to the governments plans for a statutory right to roam in open countryside. "A right to roam is a slogan. It can never be a solution. The legitimate needs of land management, of the environment, and of landowners, cannot be wished away by a stroke of a legislative pen," said a spokesman for the Country Landowners Association. Successful, enduring access could only be achieved through co-operation and voluntary agreements, he added.
