Large SW dairy herd sells well

ONE of the south-wests biggest dairy herds was sold last week for Axbridge, Somerset farmer Ivor Ham.

The 389-head herd, representing 33 years of milk production, had an average yield just short of 7000kg and took six hours to sell.

The highest call came from Messrs Lowe, Hereford, who paid 1000gns for a third calver by Rocket. She had given 9400kg with her second worth £1725.

Averages: 240 cows £582; 29 empty heifers £332 and 54 heifer calves £194. (Greenslade Taylor Hunt) &#42
