Lightweight diesel engine range is out
A NEW range of compact, lightweight engines has now been introduced by Varity Perkins.
The 700 Series, developed in partnership with Iseki of Japan, will be made at Peterborough and complement the existing line-up of Perkins engines.
Two sizes of diesel engines will be available immediately. They include the indirect-injection, 57.6hp 704-26 which has a 2.6-litre capacity and the 63hp, 3-litre, direct-injection 704-30. Both develop maximum power at 2600rpm and are also available in turbo-charged and spark ignition versions.
According to Varity Perkins group chief executive, Mike Baunton, the new series is a purpose-designed industrial and agricultural diesel engine. "It is not a vehicle engine diverted into those markets from spare capacity," he insists.
