Limousin herds offered

AFTER riding high at the Royal Show, where the breed took the Burke Trophy, Limousin breeders converged on Carlisle last weekend for an offering from five herds.

North Yorks breeder George Westgarth, who has run his New-sham herd at Richmond for over 20 years, enjoyed the days best trade including the top price of 3300gns.

JE Williams, Pwllheli, Gwynedd, claimed Newsham Jojo. This 1994-bred cow by Normande Ecosse was sold with her third calf at foot, a December-born bull by Ryedale Lusty, and was in-calf to him again.

Greensons Gigolos impact on the breed came through in the quality of the maiden heifer Newsham Nata-sha bred out of an Ecosse dam. Nat- asha has a Beef Value of 27 and was a show winner last year. D and V Hill, Ousby, Penrith, paid 3000gns.

Stock bull Ryedale Lusty, bred by Yorks breeders Peter and Anne Lang, made 2800gns to W Barr and Co, Lauder, Berwickshire.

Lancs breeders Messrs Pawson dispersed their Kidsnape herd to a top of 2500gns achieved twice. First at this level was the seven-year-old cow Kidsnape Heather, a daughter of the Talent-sired Newsham Eveready, and sold suckling her fifth calf at foot by Marnhull Hercules to MLL Thomas, Nebo, Llanrwst.

A 2500gns bid for the stock bull Crossdykes Leo topped the dispersal of Messrs ME Turner and Partners Keresforth herd from South Yorks.

The Cruickshank Normande herd from Lanarkshire offered a selection of heifers which peaked at 1600gns for Normande Nimble.

And a young cow by Normande Ecosse from Miss SE Halls Brecongill herd at Leyburn, North Yorks sold at 1000gns to JA Wood and Sons, Shrewsbury. (Harrison and Hetherington) &#42
