Limousins in favour

BUYERS are prepared to pay big prices for Limousins, with demand at Carlisle seeing two cows sell for 6000gns each.

They were both 1995-bred cows by Broadmeadows Cannon from Andy Hollidays (Penrith) Eden herd and each was suckling a calf. Eden Laura joins Jim Mulholland, Carlisle and Eden Lily heads for Bristol with K Sherrell.

Mr Holliday had a strong trade with two other young Canon-sired cows at 3000gns and 2900gns.

The imported bull Japelou from Messrs Dodd and Sons Redrock herd at Penrith topped their consignment at 4000gns to Mr Sherrell.

Walter Smith Farms brought 29 cows and heifers with calves at foot. Their best was 3800gns for a powerful heifer by Dimitri with a bull calf at foot sold to an undisclosed buyer.

Seven cows and heifers from the Inchberry herd of D and G Fraser, Inverness averaged £2332 and peaked at 3500gns when SJ Thomas, Llanpumpsaint, Carmarthen claimed a cow bred in the Crowhill herd suckling a bull calf by Daim.
