Limousins on top

THE Limousin is the UKs most popular beef sire, and its progeny is worth over £376m in primestock sales, says the British Limousin Cattle Society.

It revealed figures from the British Cattle Movement Services to show that in the six years since it was set-up just under 3.9m calves have been sired by Limousin bulls. That is 1.2m more than the Charolais, the UKs second most popular beef breed.

Dumfriesshire farmer Peter Henshall, BLCS chairman, said the £376m figure was based on the average value of £550 for all finished steers and heifers sired by Limousin bulls. &#42
