Limousins star at Carlisle sale

BIDDING rose to 3000gns at a collective offering of Limousin cattle from the Sarkley, Beck and Dentox herds at Carlisle, Cumbria, last week.

Roughley Farthing, a six-year-old cow by Haltcliffe Aristocrat, was bred by Walter Smith Farms, Sutton Coldfield and sold as part of Cumbria breeder D F Walkers Dentox herd reduction.

She was suckling a heifer calf by the Talent son Roughley Herod. Buyer was Buxton, Derbyshire, breeder D W Harrison.

Mid-Wales breeders E &#42 Pennie and Sons Sarkley herd production sale reached 2300gns for a 10-month heifer calf by Ronick Gains paid by W and G Tweedie, Biggar.

A Broadmeadows Cannon son from the Beck herd of W Hickson, which grazes high Pennine land in east Lancashire, sold to Redpath Farms, Berwickshire for 1300gns. (Harrison and Hetherington)n
