Linseed weed control risks

WINTER linseed growers relying on trifluralin (Trimaran, Treflan, Trifluralin) for weed control should avoid pre-drilling incorporation, according to the latest findings of a research project funded by the Home-Grown Cereals Authority.

Trials conducted by ADAS at its experimental centres at High Mowthorpe in Yorks, Bridgets in Hants and Boxworth in Cambs over two years have shown post-drilling application can provide effective weed control.

But where the herbicide was incorporated prior to drilling plant counts were reduced by 25% on average and in the worst case up to 69%, the HGCA warns.
