Livestock quota ring-fences to stand

LIVESTOCK quota ring-fence areas in England and Wales are to remain unchanged after industry consultation.

The ministry had planned to amalgamate Less Favoured Area quota ring fences with lowland areas, creating one block for England and another in Wales.

The NFU has welcomed the move. “We were extremely concerned that these proposals would undermine the asset value of quota. In these difficult times, the last thing we needed was major changes to livestock quota regulations,” said president, Ben Gill.

MAFF has also dropped plans to raise the percentage of quota that needed to be used from 70% to 90%.
