Losses hit Carr’s Milling Industries


CARRS Milling Industries, the Carlisle-based agriculture, food and engineering group, reported pre-tax losses of £1.8 million for the year after exceptional costs of £2.5m, mainly because of the closure of Silloth feed mill.

The company turned in £3.6m worth of profits last time.

David Newton, chairman, said the general business climate had hit confidence levels. Turnover slipped from £101m to £97m.

Charterhouse Tilney, the companys broker, is forecasting pre-tax profits of £2m for the year to August 1999.
