M&Sblacklists 79 pesticides

MARKS and Spencer is to demand use of 79 pesticides is phased out on produce destined for its stores, reports Pesticide News. Tests have shown 47% of all fruit and vegetables contain residues, but the stores long-term aim is to sell residue-free produce.

Among the 26 UK actives affected are atrazine, bromoxynil, chlorfenvinphos, dimethoate, maneb, simazine and sulphuric acid. "Retailers are breaking rank and are no longer prepared to leave pesticide decisions to the government and industry," concludes the article. &#42
