MAFF canteens free to sell foreign pork
AGRICULTURE minister Nick Brown has refused to take action to ensure that caterers supply British pork and bacon to canteens at the Ministry of Agriculture.
The canteens “are run by contracted caterers whose managers make all decisions in relation to the produce used in them,” Mr Brown said in response to a letter from Conservative MP Michael Jack.
“These are profit-making companies and it would be wrong for us to interfere in their profit-making decisions. We cannot, therefore, specify to them how to source their products.”
