MAFF gives out £3m of grants for marketing grants

GRANTS worth £3m have been given out by MAFF under the second round of the Agricultural Development Scheme that aims to improve the marketing of English produce.

The bulk of successful applications came from the livestock sector and included Charing-based Anglo Dutch Meats export proposal for veal, Dalehead Foods plans to develop an e-supply chain and the Meat & Livestock Commissions bid for improving the viability of upland sheep farms.

An offer of grant cash has been made to the British Free Range Egg Producers Association for its plan for an internet-based trading system. Glencore Grain has been offered funding for its new self-help computer programmes designed to improve farmers cereal profits.

Broader schemes included the NFUs project for improving the understanding of the food supply chain among members and directors of farmer-controlled businesses. &#42
