MAFF scab project
EIGHT leading scientific academic institutes have been chosen to carry out the two MAFF-funded research projects to develop a suitable vaccine to combat sheep scab.
Farm minister Douglas Hogg announced the £1.2m three-year project to investigate alternatives to OP chemicals for treating sheep scab, which has become endemic across the UK.
Seven research institutes and university departments – the Central Veterinary Laboratory, University of Edinburgh, Moredun Research Institute, University of Leeds, University of Aberdeen, Babraham Institute and Bangor University – will share just under £1m to conduct their research.
The remaining £300,000 will go to the Department of Clinical Veterinary Science, Langford, Bristol, which has been awarded the second project. *
