MAFF to survey milk contamination


THE Ministry of Agriculture is to investigate the extent of chemical contamination in the food chain following the discovery that human breast milk is polluted.


More than 350 potentially toxic substances which have accumulated in womens fat tissues are being passed on to babies through breast milk.

The World Wide Fund for Nature UK which revealed the contamination was reported in yesterdays Sunday newspapers.

Contaminants were found to include the pesticide lindane, which was banned a the end of last month as a seed dressing, and DDT.


A team from Leeds University will carry out Maffs study.
