DEALS have been done at two of the 17 livestock markets where the Halifax Building Society plans to dispose its interest.
From next month, Ross-on-Wye and Kinnerton marts will be run by auctioneers Steve Watkins, Gwyn Williams and Richard Williams.
The moves are part of the Halifaxs strategy to concentrate on its core business of residential property (See News, Jul 26).
The new team aim to expand throughputs. But they recognise the challenges arising from the BSE crisis, increased competition from group and deadweight selling, and restructuring in the abattoir industry.
Monmouth is expected to be the next of the Halifaxs remaining – mainly Welsh – markets where new arrangements are agreed.
