MDC agrees on levy collection
THE Milk Development Council has reached agreement with all milk buyers on the collection of its statutory funding levy.
Most of the main buyers had already agreed to collect the 0.04p/ litre levy from their producers without charge. But Milk Marque, with more than 60% of Britains milk production, was threatening to deduct an administration fee.
But last week, an "amicable agreement" was reached, said an MDC spokesman. He said all first-hand buyers of milk had agreed to collect the levy. In return the companies would pay the MDC one month in arrears, giving them the use of the cash for over a month.
