Mead on Council

DEREK Mead, the campaigning Somerset dairy farmer and leading member of Farmers For Action, has been elected by Somerset NFU as one of its two delegates to the NFUs national Council. He will join the council after the NFUs AGM in February, replacing Mary James who will be retiring.

Mr Mead was elected under the new voting system which gives every member a postal ballot. Barely a quarter of the 3,200 eligible members voted, but over half of them named Derek Mead. He polled 421 of the 840 votes cast. There were 43 rejected papers, Fran Evens took 194 votes, and Mike Amos 182.
